Dr Kanita Kunaratnam's mission is to enable women and children to live their best lives; to be heard; and to provide a safe space for them to discuss their health/nutrition issues and goals; and achieve good nutrition through gentle nutrition approaches, sound advice and following evidence-based practice as guiding principles.
Kanita's practice is non-diet, trauma informed, weight neutral (prioritising your health, not your weight) and Neuro-diversity affirming, embracing culturally valid and compassionate care pathways.
Based in Perth, Kanita can offer consultations to women and families across Australia and overseas (except for those residing in the United States or Canada.)
Nutrition for Children & Adolescents
Dr Kanita Kunaratnam's expertise is in providing high quality neurodiversity affirming and trauma informed nutrition care through a responsive feeding approach. She is a supporter of early diagnosis of feeding differences and advocates for inclusion and acceptance and has worked extensively with children, adolescents and their families.
Kanita supports families and children with feeding challenges that may coexist alongside other neurodiverse medical conditions including ADHD, autism spectrum, sensory feeding issues, ARFID, disordered eating practices, eating disorders or other common nutrition issues that may impact on healthy growth and development including : failure-to-thrive, food allergy and intolerance, fussy feeding or supplemental/assisted feeding using artificial modalities (PEG or NGT- tube feeds).
Nutrition for Women/Mothers
Dr Kanita Kunaratnam empowers women of all ages to take control of their health. This includes supporting your nutrition goals, be it; generalised healthy eating, managing gut issues e.g. IBS/ low FODMAP diets, food intolerance, Diabetes management, PCOS, gout, cholesterol, fertility, pre-conception, pregnancy, post partum support, perimenopause and menopause. Accommodating special dietary restrictions including: coeliac disease, lactose intolerance, vegetarian, vegan.

She is passionate about partnering with other professionals on nutrition-related projects focused on maternal and paediatric nutrition, eating disorders and other nutirition issues. Kanita is a valuable asset to any project or organisation, offering practical recommendations based on her research and real-world experience.

Research
With expertise in the fields of child and maternal nutrition, nutrition policy, eating disorders and weight stigma/bias, among others; Kanita is eager to work collaboratively on research projects that focus on these areas. She has previously co-authored research published in The Journal of Nutrition (USA), European Journal of Clinical Nutrition and the British Journal of Nutrition.

Kanita's education and background in diet and nutrition enable her to confidently consult on health and wellbeing in a range of environments. Her evidence-based, practical advice has helped allied health professionals and health professionals across Australia.

Supervision / Professional Mentoring
Early Career Supervision Groups are available to provide opportunity for New Graduate and Early Career Dietitians to experience Supervision in a supportive environment, through observational learning and direct debrief of supervision practice issues.
Kanita offers one-to-one supervision or group supervisions, where we use the adapted “Model of Possibilities” (MOP) framework.
Group supervision: is limited to 4 participants at any one time.

The Women and Children Nutrition Clinic is dedicated to helping families achieve optimal nutrition for their loved ones. We are here to help with anything related to nutrition and feeding, including:
